winning against pride is a struggle. Whenever a person does anything extremely well and others recognize it, it will be a struggle. For me it is worse, because family members of patients frequently say kind things such as, “Oh, you’re fantastic! You’re great,” when we have successful surgeries, and keep repeating, “You’re wonderful. You’re so gifted.” I know that they mean well, but I also know that I do not have a successful surgery without the help of numerous other gifted people backing me up. Moreover, I know that if God had not given me the ability to be a neurosurgeon, I could not accomplish such successes
